Supported Sphinx Posture – a fantastic alternative to sitting at a desk/standing while working on your laptop, tablet or phone.
A guided video with Robin Ellis, founder of wellbeing pop-up specialists Yin Yan, showing how to use a modified yoga posture (Sphinx) as a comfortable & energising position when using a laptop/tablet/phone.
Can be particularly useful to counteract problems associated with sitting at a desk (a rounded spine often with hunched shoulders) and can be useful to reduce pain and suffering for people with some disc related lower back problems.
PLEASE MAKE SURE you use the lift/support as shown under your pelvis. It might be slightly uncomfortable, especially to start with and if you already have a stiff lower back so GO GENTLY and USE CAUTION. For an even more gentle option try using the edge of your bed as the lift under your pelvis (have your elbows on the bed and place pillows on the floor under your knees).
Practice little and often, perhaps only holding for a few breaths to start with, then slowly increase the time spent in the position as it becomes more comfortable & familiar. Be patient and kind to yourself!
As always listen to your own body, stop if you need to & use the supports shown in the video (they are essential not optional especially for people with back problems) and if in doubt consult your medical healthcare professional.
